Many times you must be wondering about the meaning of names of the everyday gadgets. Like for example, have you ever thought what the ‘i’ stands for in iPod and DSi. It was guessed that the ‘i’ in DSi stood for ‘interactive’. This is because Nintendo is keen to impress the gamers with its latest hand-held console that it is more than a simple toy for gaming.

 But a Nintendo rep said that the ‘i’ in DSi means two things: the ‘i’ is symbolic of the subject “I” and its personal aspect. Also, the addition of two cameras gives the system its own “eye” on things. The rep added that Nintendo hopes that the Nintendo DSi becomes more than a game system and gives a personal touch in our lives. For iPod, an Apple rep said that the ‘i’ in iPod was just a brand name and not an acronym.

In a recent Iawata Asks interview, it was revealed that Masahiro Sakurai who is associated with the Smash Bros. series has formed a new studio called Project Sora. This development studio will work for Nintendo as a second party subsidiary owning a 72% stake. It has been operating out of Tokyo since January 2009.

Sakurai has hinted during the interview that they are not interested in making any Brain Training games or other casual products. It is assumed that Project Sora will be focused on the traditional gaming market. Sakurai said that the studio’s project will not be a SSB game but something entirely new and original. The studio is currently advertising job openings for 3D modelers, game designers and programmers.

Recently in a press release about January’s US sales figure, Nintendo has ignored the month-on-month declines but puts emphasis on its huge year-to-year growth. The company boasted of its massive increase in its hardware business as compared to last January. It said that this growth in figure gives the industry a good look.

Nintendo also noted that almost half of the software top ten comprised of its titles, mainly Wii Fit, Wii Play and Mario Kart which occupied the top three positions. Still, Nintendo slashed its profit forecast in January as the strength of yen has gone down and also the decrease in the demand of the Wii. It is surprising to think that who would be making money if even Nintendo couldn’t make it in 2009.

There’s a bad news for the gamers who were eagerly waiting for Dragon Quest IX as it has been delayed in Japan. After much delay the game was supposed to release the next month but it seems the game will be postponed even further for release. The RPG for the Nintendo handheld has been postponed to July

According to Square Enix, the sale date has been changed to July 11 so that they would have enough time to inspect this title. There were various guesses for Dragon Quest IX not releasing next month but they were no confirmed reports. But the release date of the game on July 11, 2009 has been officially declared by Square Enix.  A few weeks back, Square Enix has also announced Dragon Quest X for the Nintedno Wii.

Since last Christmas, the Wii was out of stock. Even Amazon had no choice except to wait to fill in the stocks at its site. However, Amazon is back with Wii stocks as the have listed the Nintendo Wii again for $249.99.

2008 was the year when Nintendo had set new sales records for Wii and the DS. About 10.17 million Wii consoles were sold by Nintendo in the United States alone. Amazon still has a purchase limit for the Wii. It is permitting each household to but two Nintendo Wii units within any 30-day period. So, if you still need a Wii, rush to Amazon to grab one before you lose it. You may never know how many consoles Amazon may have in stock.

Nintendo will get a new game released on its DS platform by video game publisher, Mindscape later this year. The title of the game will be Coronation Street. The product has been described as ‘an adventure and task-based concept set within the theme of the famous fictional street.’

RTL Games, a consumer product licensee have also decided to release a Corrie board game called ‘Destination: Coronation Street’. ITV Global Entertainment’s international merchandise and licensing director, Ayesha Kidwai stated ‘Coronation Street’ as a national institution and that it is watched by over 78% of the UK television population in 2008. The game is due to release in Q4.
