Lucrative Lonpos 04/15/2008

These microtransactions are getting out of control.  It seems like developers are trying to nickel-and-dime the fans of their games, and they've found the right ATM with WiiWare.  That being said, we might still have to pay for those Lonpos packs.

Japanese fans of the puzzle game just got 9 puzzle packs released at a price of 500 Wii Points per pack.  That's about 5 bucks for every 100 Wii Points, so the math gets crazy.  It also costs $10 to download the game's starter pack.  This is getting ridiculous.

60 Characters? 04/15/2008

It's always a disappointment when video game developers get a hold of one of your favorite movie franchises and do something terrible to it.  You get all anxious even though you know that there's no way that it will live up to your own private hype.  I've got that feeling about the upcoming Indiana Jones game.

The reason for my trepidation is the fact that it's LEGO Indiana Jones.  Based on the first three films of the series, the characters are designed in the form of, well, LEGO people.  At least there are 60 characters in the game, although I don't remember there being that many characters in the whole series.

There's been a lot of speculation as to when Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon was going to arrive on North American shores.  Fans of the beloved FF character have yearned for this title to be available in the U.S., and now they have it. ,On July 8th, RPG fans can rejoice too because the Wii gets to add another role-player to its collection.

The concept is simple: Chocobo and Cid end up in a town of amnesiacs.  They then embark on a journey to restore the memories of these people that leads to...dungeons.  The game will support Wi-Fi battles and has a number of minigames as well.  Couple that with a price tag of $39.99 and you've got yourself something to do this summer.

Amazon.com has been trying for some time to become the Wii owner's best friend.  From their "Deal of the Day" specials to the suprise price cuts on select Wii titles, the online retailer is making it easier to put together a respectable collection of games for the Wii without breaking the bank.  Amazon's newest offering is Battalion Wars 2, aka BWii.

The title was originally cut to $32.99, which was hard to complain about.  Things got much better when it recently dropped to $25.83.  The game's a good buy and the shipping's gonna be free, so go out and get it before they realize what they've done.

It's amazing sometimes how many fans there are out there who adore games for consoles that flamed out.  How did these people get into these games if they didn't bother to pick up the system?  Now, old school CD-ROM lovers get their due.

Dracula X will be released to Japanese Wii players next month via the Virtual Console.  Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo, as it's known back in the video game motherland, will be available for 800 points and looks to mark a surge in worthwhile titles for the VC.  Only time will tell, but at least they're trying.

As the reports come in for this week's most popular Wii games in Japan, we get a couple of surprises.  Family Ski and Winning Eleven: Play Maker 2008 (Pro Evolution Soccer) get booted from the list of top titles in Japan.  The top ranking was taken by Deca Sports, suprising some.

It's been said that the game came in behind Dragon Quest: Swords and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles to place third on the list of the highest sales debuts for third-part Wii titles.  Not too shabby, Deca Sports!  Now, we just sit back and watch the ensuing fight between fans of Deca Sports and Wii Sports over who's got the best sports game for the console.
