Nintendo Wii celebrated its 2nd birthday on November 19th as they are going for their North America release. All throughout this year they had a bumpy ride with periodic ups and downs. They now expect that the coming year would look even better.
There have been some good points about Nintendo in last one year. Without a doubt, the most influential change of the Wii is its effect on the demographics of the video same market. The Wii has already changed many aspects of the games industry for the better and as a console it was totally different from the others. However, in some areas Wii also failed and the principal failure of Wii remote is in its promise of immersion through movement. There are limitations of the Wii remote’s accelerometer that makes it to be far short of the dream machine that the players were pining over.
When Nintendo is on the verge of launching its Club Nintendo consumer reward’s program in North America, it has come up with its Club Nintendo rewards program. Every year in Japan, Platinum and Gold members in the Japanese program get a free gift. This year, Platinum members, those who managed to get above 400 points will be able to choose one item from the three which include a snazzy golden Wii Wheel.
It is a gold colored version of the steering wheel that Nintendo bundled with Mario Kart Wii. Then there is a Super Mario Cap which Nintendo claims to be a hit on the big side for girls and school children. Lastly, a Club Nintendo Calendar 2009, the only option for Gold members.
Nintendo just can’t catch up with a break as far as lawsuits are concerned. Earlier, in August, Hillcrest Laboratories had filed a suit against Nintendo concerning the motion-sensing aspects of the console and claims that Nintendo infringed upon 4 different patents. ITC (International Trade Commission) had announced that it will conduct a probe in this issue and in the worst case could even ban Wii from the United States. In another case, Anascape had filed a lawsuit where the Wii Classic was threatened to be withdrawn from the market.
Now, the latest suit is from a small company, Motiva, based in Ohio, filed on November 10th, which claims that Nintendo has infringed U.S. patent (7,292,151) titled "Human Movement Measurement System." Motiva is claiming royalties, damages, and attorney fees for their patent, which was originally filed as a rehabilitation aid; however, in the applications section of their patent, they do list video games. So, Nintendo and Motiva will now have to do some courtroom shuffle till this is resolved.
Alien Crush Returns is releasing on November 8th in Europe and along with it Hudson had announced three new WiiWare games. The games range from pretty stuff like pool to fixing toilets and will be fun to play!!
Talking about the games, Snooker vs. Billiards Cue Sports is expected to be out at the end of this month and is a pool game for 1-4 players which could be played online. It can be played very conveniently either with motion or through buttons month. Then is Snowboard Riot, which also supports online players for up to 4 players, is a snowboarding game with combat as if a road rash is falling down a mountain. It also allows a Balance Board. Next is the Pit Crew Panic in which the crew not only fixes the cars quickly but also fixes cakes, flower beds and to think about, the toilets as well…
Finally, 2K Sports is ready to capitalize on the madness of baseball fever by launching their game MLB Superstars for Wii. So, we can now sit back and enjoy the game playing it ourselves rather than cheering our team for victory.
This game has been developed by Deep Fried Entertainment and features games such as Baseball Golf, Baseball Pachinko and Baseball Bocci. It will also feature minigames such as Mascot Dance and Green Monster where the players must break down a wall with a baseball bat making us wonder what it might look like. Instead of the ridiculous screens where the baseball players have to compete in minigames which is quite unlikely of them , here in this game the same ridiculous screens are used but in motion. So, a touch of freshness at least lingers to play this game.
Sega had once hit the market with the most joyful games ever, Samba de Amigo. It captured the hearts at once with its bouncy music, bright colors and manic monkeys that can probably make one smile and start our morning with a high note. The shaking monkey represents everything great about the Dreamcast era and made the game more joyful to view.
However, all this enjoyment was short-livened as PETA, who had once ripped off Nintendo for a flash game about chicken cruelty, got enraged when they saw a live chimpanzee dancing on the steps of Samba in the ad. Their letter to Sega stating the poor conditions of the chimps being exploited compelled Sega to pull back the ad promising never to cast apes in future and resulting in PETA awarding them with vegan chocolates.
In a recent Opinion Research Corporation, eBay is giving gifts on purchase. Twenty four percent users told neckties is the maximum gift given. The shopping website is also offering gift cards. Some are expecting bigger gift items like HDTV (20%), LCD TV (10%) and DVD players etc. Guitar Hero is the most popular among those who prefer video games and Wii Fit is coming in second at 13 percent.
However the iPhone has become the largest choice of 35 percent users who want smart phone in their pockets with an Apple Touch screen device. The women were demanding Blackberry as a gift in their purses. After neckties, flowers and candles are the least expected gifts.
The first true consequence of the classic 1988 Nintendo Entertainment System has originally come with Bionic Commando. It was the return with a developed version of Nathan Rad which was voiced by Mike Patton. Mike Patton was the former singer. In the game, Spencer was not born with good destiny. On the last day of execution, terrorists donated weapons in Ascension city which caused massive earthquake and destroyed lot.
Bionic Commando is composed with different shots along with 8- bit included with the dazing 3D environment of towering building where everyone is swirling and trembling with fear and terror in their hearts. The techniques are used for pictorial description and are very much successful in expressing them.
