Many times you must be wondering about the meaning of names of the everyday gadgets. Like for example, have you ever thought what the ‘i’ stands for in iPod and DSi. It was guessed that the ‘i’ in DSi stood for ‘interactive’. This is because Nintendo is keen to impress the gamers with its latest hand-held console that it is more than a simple toy for gaming.

But a Nintendo rep said that the ‘i’ in DSi means two things: the ‘i’ is symbolic of the subject “I” and its personal aspect. Also, the addition of two cameras gives the system its own “eye” on things. The rep added that Nintendo hopes that the Nintendo DSi becomes more than a game system and gives a personal touch in our lives. For iPod, an Apple rep said that the ‘i’ in iPod was just a brand name and not an acronym.

This development studio will work for Nintendo as a second party subsidiary owning a 72% stake. It has been operating out of Tokyo since January 2009.

Sakurai has hinted during the interview that they are not interested in making any Brain Training games or other casual products. It is assumed that Project Sora will be focused on the traditional gaming market. Sakurai said that the studio’s project will not be a SSB game but something entirely new and original. The studio is currently advertising job openings for 3D modelers, game designers and programmers.

Recently in a press release about January’s US sales figure, Nintendo has ignored the month-on-month declines but puts emphasis on its huge year-to-year growth. The company boasted of its massive increase in its hardware business as compared to last January. It said that this growth in figure gives the industry a good look.

Nintendo also noted that almost half of the software top ten comprised of its titles, mainly Wii Fit, Wii Play and Mario Kart which occupied the top three positions. Still, Nintendo slashed its profit forecast in January as the strength of yen has gone down and also the decrease in the demand of the Wii. It is surprising to think that who would be making money if even Nintendo couldn’t make it in 2009.

Nintendo booked strong sales for both the Wii and DS in the year-end holiday shopping season, proving itself relatively resilient to a global economic slowdown that has slammed rival electronics firms. But Nintendo's outlook is tempered by a rising yen, which makes its consoles less competitive and cuts into the value of overseas earnings. Nintendo gets more than three-quarters of its sales outside Japan. The company, locked in a three-way battle with Microsoft Corp's XBox and Sony Corp's PlayStation in the video game market, lowered its forecast for the year to end-March to 530 billion yen from a previous 630 billion yen estimate.
The new forecast compares with a market consensus for 604 billion yen in a poll of 18 analysts by Reuters Estimates. Nintendo had been widely expected to trim its outlook given that it was based on dollar/yen and euro/yen assumptions of 100 and 140, respectively. The dollar is currently fetching about 89 yen, while the European currency is trading around 118 yen.

Challenging Wii 01/31/2009

Though it's an Elebits game in every superficial respect, Elebits. The Adventures of Kai and Zero" shares not anything in common with the Nintendo Wii game that birthed the franchise. That game was an original action/puzzle game that had you using the Wiimote to knock over furniture and play virtual hide and seek, while "Zero" translates some of the same concepts into a far more customary, two-dimensional adventure game in the "Legend of Zelda" vein.
It works, in spite of itself sometimes, and it allows the series to spread its ever-deepening mythology to systems that can't do what the Wii can and can do things the Wii cannot. For the most part, past some encounters, that's how you play: Find the hiding Elebits, amass energy, and use your team of Omegas to ward off small enemies and solve puzzles that hamper your progress. But again, it works. "Zero" doesn't throw a lot of frantic action your way, but the puzzles are planned well - neither ridiculously easy nor gratuitously cryptic in their riddle.

Do it Like Nokia 01/27/2009

Beside the other things, there are lots of Nokia’s higher-end mobiles with ultra-sensitive Nintendo MEMS gyroscopes likely to feature in at least some Nokia handsets, according to sources. At present the likes of the N95 and N96 use accelerometers to work out which way they’re facing and how fast they’re moving - this works fine for apps like Nokia Step Counter, but the tech isn’t massively advanced.

MEMS gyroscopes are in a diverse league - this is the same tech that will be used in Nintendo’s forthcoming Wii MotionPlus a super-sensitive dongle that allows the already-motion sensitive Wii Remote controller to measure gamers’ real-time performance and repeat them identically on screen and whatever game is being played.

Neopets 01/27/2009

Years ago, Sony made some Neopets-themed adventure games for the PS2 and PSP. While the games were decent, it was generally accepted that the adventure genre was a logical place to take the enormously popular Web site goods, since they're pretty simple and straightforward. When Capcom got a hold of the license freshly, they decided to do somthing different with it.
The outcome is Neopets Puzzle Adventure, a puzzle game for the Nintendo Wii. While they are to be applauded for doing something different with licensed games, they should also be scolded for putting together such a theoretically poor product. The basis of Neopets Puzzle Adventure is a fairly simple difference of Othello, also known to some people as Reversi. With a given number of squares on the board, players take turns trying to occupy as many spaces as likely with their colored tokens.
