There were quite a few sales for gaming consoles in December. The market is really hot with the Nintendo Wii and DS and other stars such as Xbox 360 and the rising PS3.
The Nintendo DS ended up topping the chart for a whooping 2.47 million sales in the US. That's almost twice as many sales as the Nintendo Wii which came at 1.35 million. The Xbox 360 also had a great showing at 1.26 million. The Ps2 is still selling incredibly well at 1.1 million which always surprises me.
All three consoles seem to be selling quite well which should mean for a great 2008. Maybe we'll start seeing higher quality games coming out.
Pachter who is a super analyst has reported that the PS3 will take over in 2008. This is interesting news because the Nintendo Wii has done so well in 2007 while the Sony PS3 has gone off to a terribly slow start
However, Bluway is making great headways into dominating HD-DVD which means that more and more people will buy the PS3 so they can have the HD movie experience. Another large reason is that the price of the PS3 will fall to the just right price for many consumers.
I personally believe that Nintendo will have something up their sleeve such as lowering the price of the Nintendo Wii to compete with any PS3 rise.
The Nintendo Wii is getting more and more press everyday. The holiday craziness has just ended but that hasn't ended the shortage problems. However, this isn't the only issue the media are covering about the Nintendo Wii. CNN recently covered how the Nintendo Wii is making Rehab a much better experience for many people.
The feature had CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta cover all sorts of aspects about the Nintendo Wii. The feature was well put together and really shows the power of the Nintendo Wii over other consoles. This is bringing even more press to the Nintendo Wii which means those shortages will keep going.
Everyone is crying for a Nintendo Wii right now, but how much business is Nintendo really losing out? Will the people who couldn't find a Nintendo Wii go ahead and buy another console like the Sony PS3 or Xbox 360?
Analysts think so at MDB Capital Group. They calculated that Nintendo is losing $1.3 billion in extra revenue. This is quite a huge number. They believe that Nintendo could be selling double of what they are currently producing. This means their production of 1.8 million consoles a month should be 3.6 million.
Analysts aren't usually right so I'm not sure if anyone really cares, but we do know that there are many upset people out there who can't afford to pay the prices on eBay.
Something good is happening for the folks over in Europe who buy Nintendo Wii. It turns out that Nintendo will start a Club Nintendo over there where basically loyal Nintendo buyers will be rewarded depending on how many Nintendo purchases they make. They will even have access to exclusive rewards like the SNES controller that the Club Nintendo in Japan received.
You will receive a certain amount of Star Points when you buy Nintendo Wii hardware and games. Four points will equal one Wii Point so you can get some free Virtual Console games out of it. This sounds like a great way to make people buy Nintendo Wii in Europe as many countries are not raving for it like the US and UK.
The US should expect a similar program in the future so sit tight after you buy Nintendo Wii. With the way it's going in America, a Club Nintendo over here would do very well.
It turns out that if you buy Nintendo Wii, you may accidently get healthier. This is quite a strange development in the video game world because usually gaming is associated with being unhealthy and fat. Mass media likes to perpetuate this stigma always showing an overweight gamer.
It's all slowly starting to change as more people buy Nintendo Wii. It all started in the beginning where people would play Wii Sports and end up playing it like it was the real thing. This means wild arm throwing and violent swinging, which was enough to cause serious damage to TVs and walls. It caused a lot of complaints which forced Nintendo to give people free stronger wrist bands.
Nintendo is revolutionizing exercise and gaming again with the Wii Fit. The Fit is causing a lot more people to buy Nintendo Wii because it now provides a full workout for the body. The Wii Fit is a platform you stand on which measures how much pressure you put on it. This leads to many games that rely on you balancing correctly or applying pressure with your feet accurately. It's an addicting experience when they use games like yoga and dancing.
Wii Fit is a huge hit in Japan as there were over 300,000 preorders over there and should be a huge hit in the states as well. Expect many more people to buy Nintendo Wii after Wii Fit comes out.
Maybe your one of the few people who couldnt' get a hold of the Nintendo Wii Zapper due to it selling out so fast. Maybe you don't care to spend $20 on a contraption that just is a plastic holder for your Wii remote and nunchuk. Maybe you just love legos!
Someone put together a Wii Zapper made out of legos and it's quite colorful. It's really not too difficult because the complicated mechanics are already in the Wii remote and nunchuk. All you really need is something that will house each controller and then a trigger button that will press the trigger button on the Wii remote.
It seems that legos are an easy way to do it if you still have them lieing around. However, I'd think it would be a just a tad too heavy, but maybe that's good for the feel of a real gun.
It's clever and we should be seeing more creative solutions in the future.
Black Friday as recently passed and what happened? There were hardly as many Nintendo Wiis as people predicted there would be leaving many people who are going to buy Nintendo Wii disapointed. This is because many people believed that stores were hiding their Nintendo Wii stock for this special day. The stores would end up advertising that they had tons of Nintendo Wiis and people would come to the store and buy other things as well.
Looks like that huge batch of Nintendo Wiis are gone, which are leaving people looking to buy Nintendo Wii just as stranded. Nintendo is fully aware of the problem and are working their butt off to meet the demand, but it just may be a little to late for Christmas shoppers.
There are only really two easy options left for people looking to buy Nintendo Wii. One is to use a resource like Buy Wii which aggregates eBay and Amazon Marketplace listings into one easy to use website. However, you will have to pay a little more than the $250 retail. This little more is quickly becoming a lot more as prices on eBay have risen from $300 to $400+ in just over 1 week, and it's only been Thanksgiving!
The best word of advice is to get out there and buy Nintendo Wii as fast as you can no matter what kind of method. All I know is that there will be a ton of upset of kids, parents, and even seniors (have you seen them bowl at those retirement centers?)
You heard me right. There is actually a controller that looks like the SNES controller, but works for the Nintendo Wii. I know you're asking where you can find one, and I'm going to have to say I'm sorry. Why? Because it's only available in Japan for special people in this club called Club Nintendo.
Club Nintendo is a program for people who buy lots of Nintendo products. This time around they have a special gift for those who have enough points and it's a custom SNES controller. This is a pretty cool gift for many hardcore Nintendo fans. It may not make sense to a lot of newer casual gamers because it is an old controller after all.
Fortunately, there are two companies, NCSX and Play-Asia, which import products from Japan. They are going to sell the SNES controller for $30, which is a pretty darn good price for something that brings back so many good memories.
If you're an American and you think you have it bad, think again! There are far less Nintendo Wiis available in Britain and the demand is just as high which is causing huge outages. The problem now is that the console is selling for £300 ($615) on ebay which is an incredible amount. It is only selling for $350 in the United States and climbing fast... VERY fast.
Recently, Amazon UK sold 1,000 Nintendo Wiis in less than 10 minutes. This is incredible. We have been seeing 20% climbs on prices on eBay every week. This is going to be one crazy holiday for Nintendo Wii shoppers in both America and Great Britain.
Something to keep in mind that last year Nintendo DS was facing a similar problem and Nintendo was producing almost double the amount of DS than the Wiis. It wasn't until 3 months after the holidays that the stock levels turned to normal.
