Wii has had a topsy turvey and a very crazy ride when it comes to DVD play back. Wii is not yet fully concentrating on this project and once again it was put on the back burner. The DVD play back was not a huge hit with the gamers or with other people and hence Wii has not yet taken it so seriously. Wii has released only 600 devices that play the DVD’s also the response has been mixed and luke warm. Owing to this and looking at the market trend it was decided that DVD console project will be looked into after some time and not on immediate basis.

Nintendo had planned the movie ready console device, but it did not reach the target sales as estimated by the company and hence is being neglected for time being. Satoru Iwata commented that with supply facing constraints all over the world the current model is the biggest priority. This points out that no DVD unit will be rolled out in the near future. Also it is very difficult to get the existing console to the people, let alone developing a new model.
